Why Waybeam

The cost of rail projects is inhibiting the numbers being delivered; put simply, they are too expensive. Yet at the same time, the need for sustainable mass transit is growing.

Major challenges that drive the cost of delivering rail projects include:
- ground works during construction,
- relocation of utilities, and
- access to rails and utilities for maintenance and renewals.

Why it’s important

These challenges matter because they are preventing the deployment of more rail projects which have environmental, economic and social benefits.

What Waybeam does

The Waybeam Track System lowers the cost of manufacture, installation and maintenance in order to increase the opportunities for rail deployment and encourage modal shift from private to public  transport.

Meeting the need

Inter-city and heavy rail are not necessary to meet all rail transport needs such as branch lines and shuttles

Offering affordability

By incorporating and adapting existing techniques, the Waybeam Track System offers affordable rail projects at an upfront cost for supply and installation of £5m / km (with a much lower cost than £5m / km for renewal of embedded track in on-street running) and the ability to carry axle weights up to 15 tonnes.
